Tom Baugh, CEO

 

 

 

 

Tom’s 29 years of experience in consumer and trade shows includes all aspects of the business: exhibitor, facility management, general contracting, sales and sales management, show management, launches and more than a decade of event ownership, including consumer home & garden shows and trade events/conferences (i.e., printing/computer graphics, medical and U.S. patents/trademarks).  

Prior to joining Marketplace Events, formerly dmg world media, Tom was a vice president at the International Management Group (IMG), where he headed the firm’s national sponsorship initiatives, as well as managing the team created to launch North American consumer shows.   He also managed consumer and trade show groups for Advanstar Expositions.

Tom is the past president of the Home & Garden Show Executives International (HGSEI), and has served in leadership positions for the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) and the National Association of Consumer Shows (NACS).  He joined dmg world media in October 2003.  He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Pittsburgh.

Mark White, CFO

 

 

 

 

 

Mark graduated from Exeter University in the UK in 1989, and then completed his accounting designation with Price Waterhouse Coopers in London in 1992. After performing an audit for dmg world media in September 1992, he joined dmg in the UK in March 1993 as group controller.

He transferred to Toronto in May 1997, following the Southex acquisition, to take on the role of controller for North America.  As the business expanded, he became VP finance for the Home Show Sector.

In May 2003, he transferred to Northern California to run the Harvest Festival Craft Show business (before its sale in 2006), while continuing the VP finance and business development role for the Home Shows.

In addition to finance and business development responsibilities, Mark has played a key support role and acted as advisor to the head of the sector since the late 1990s. This role has included interim regional management; acquisition completion and integration; and divestitures, as well as strategic planning.  He became CFO of Marketplace Events in July 2008.

Lisa Kropf, Sr. VP Sales & Marketing

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lisa joined Marketplace Events, formerly dmg world media, in 2004 when her PR firm was retained to manage two consumer food shows launched in partnership with Food Network.  In 2005, she joined the company full time as director of marketing & sponsorship for dmg’s portfolio of North American consumer home shows.  She was promoted to sr. vice president sales & marketing in July 2008 and today manages a team of ten overseeing the company’s consumer and exhibitor marketing, corporate communications, research, sponsorship and sales efforts. 

During her 13 years as owner/operator of Kropf Public Relations Inc. in Cleveland, her firm provided marketing services to clients such as:  Pepsi; IMG; Advanstar Communications; Countrywide Bank; PBS; the HGTV show “Room by Room”; the Akron and Youngstown Home & Garden Shows; the I-X Indoor Amusement Park; The Plain Dealer Everywoman Expo; and others.  Prior to starting her business she also worked in sales and marketing for The Front Row Theater, The Cleveland Play House and WKYC-TV3.  She has worked on more than 100 different events in her 20-year career. 

A Cleveland native, Lisa is a graduate of Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism.  She was named Entrepreneur of the Year by dmg in 2006 and in 1996, was named one of Cleveland’s "50 Most Interesting People" by Cleveland magazine.  She is a regular speaker at industry events and is a member of NACS, SISO, IEG, and IAEE.

Paul Schweitzer, VP Business Development

 

 

 

 

 

 

Paul started in the consumer show industry in 1979 as an exhibit space sales representative for Southex Exhibitions and joined dmg world media in 1996. Through the years, he has been involved in the sales and management of many consumer shows across North America. 

Paul oversaw the acquisition and/or launching of home shows in Philadelphia, Boston, New York, Ohio, Washington D.C., Orlando, Tampa, West Palm Beach and other shows in Florida and elsewhere. 

In addition to business development, he is also working on the launch of Marketplace Event Consultants, a new business-to-business division that will offer custom consulting to key exhibitors, sponsors and other show producers in markets where the company is not competitive.  He has served as a board member of the Home & Garden Show Executives International (HGSEI), NACS and is president of the Consumer Events Council for the International Association of Exhibitions and Events.

A graduate of the State University of New York, Paul holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and he has also completed numerous trade show association’s educational courses.

Liz Benkovich, Regional Vice President

 

 

Southex Exhibitions hired Liz in 1984 as an exhibit space sales rep for heavy duty truck shows.  In 1991, she began working on the dmg Home Shows and has been with the company, now Marketplace Events, ever since.

Liz’s tenure with the company has allowed her to garner a wealth of experience in many markets.  She has worked on launching home shows, struggling home shows, recently acquired home shows and healthy home shows.  Liz has widespread geographic experience. She has held various positions during her career, which include exhibit space sales, exhibits manager, show manager, group manager, regional director and most recently regional vice president as of July 2008.

Her region, which includes shows in the Midwest US, Eastern US and Toronto, accounts for more than 40% of the company’s operating profit.

Mike Webster, Regional Vice President

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mike joined Marketplace Events, formerly a dmg world media company, in May 2008.  Prior to joining Marketplace Events, Mike was a senior-level executive with Advanstar Communications from 1982 to 2008.

During his 26 years with Advanstar Communications, Mike was involved with all aspects of trade and consumer media management including expositions, magazines, directories, websites and related products.  During his tenure at Advanstar, he was responsible for a variety of products serving numerous market sectors including powersports, licensing, call center management, entertainment, automotive, art and beauty.  Mike was a founding member of the highly successful Cycle World International Motorcycle Shows, a series of high-end consumer motorcycle shows held annually in more than a dozen major U.S. markets such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Minneapolis and Atlanta.  Mike was also instrumental in the development and growth of the Dealernews International Powersports Dealer Expo, the largest trade-only exposition in the world for motorcycle and powersports aftermarket products.  The Dealer Expo is a Tradeshow Week 200 event.  As vice president & general manager, Mike was a member of Advanstar’s Executive and Operating Committees and was involved with several acquisitions of shows and magazines.

Mike is a Southern California native and attended Saddleback College and Orange Coast Colleges and has a certificate from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. Mike is a regular speaker and contributor at industry events and is a member of NACS, PCMA, SISO, IAEE and AMA.
